
Khanom Tuay Fu – Thai Steamed Cupcakes
Khanom Tuay Fu is a traditional Thai steamed cupcake, often served on auspicious occasions as it symbolizes prosperity and growth. With its soft, fluffy texture, mild sweetness, and a hint of jasmine aroma, this dessert “blooms” beautifully when steamed over high heat. Perfect for celebrations or as a delightful snack at home. This recipe uses Five Stars Fish Brand rice flour to ensure soft, fluffy, and perfectly risen cakes.
Ingredients
- 100 g rice flour (Five Stars Fish Brand)
- 75 g sugar
- 5 g baking powder
- 85 g coconut milk
- 85 g water
- ¼ tsp jasmine essence
- Food coloring of choice
Instructions
Make the Batter
1. In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, baking powder, sugar, coconut milk, water, and jasmine essence. Stir until smooth.
Add Coloring
2. Divide the batter into 3 bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring to each and mix well.
Steam the Cakes
3. Preheat the cups by steaming them first. Fill each cup about ¾ full with batter. Steam over high heat for about 10 minutes until the cakes “bloom” beautifully.
Serve
4. Turn off the heat, open the lid, and let the cakes cool slightly before removing from the cups. Enjoy soft, fluffy steamed Thai cupcakes!
