Khanom Kluay – Steamed Banana Cake


Khanom Kluay (Steamed Banana Cake) is a traditional Thai dessert with a soft, fluffy texture, natural sweetness from ripe bananas, and a rich coconut aroma. Perfect as a snack or dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 10 ripe Thai bananas (Nam Wa variety preferred)
  • 1 cup rice flour (Five Stars Fish Brand)
  • ¼ cup tapioca flour
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup coconut milk
  • 2 cups grated coconut

Instructions

1. Mash the bananas until smooth. In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, tapioca flour, sugar, salt, and coconut milk. Mix or knead until well combined into a smooth batter.

2. Pour the batter into small cups or molds, then sprinkle grated coconut on top.

3. Steam over boiling water for about 30 minutes, until cooked through.

Serve

4. Remove from the steamer, let cool slightly, and serve. Soft, fragrant, and naturally sweet, Khanom Kluay is a classic Thai dessert made with ripe bananas and coconut.
